OVERVIEW: Set in the Chiltern Hills, at the edge of pretty Buckinghamshire hamlet, Ridgeley Farmhouse was built in place of two unsightly industrial sheds. The residence was designed to form two distinct sections, joined by a glazed link; one wing a contemporary take on a timber-clad agricultural barn and the other inspired by the traditional old red-brick barn conversion it sits beside. Designed by Jane Duncan Architects, with an interior scheme by Jane Duncan Interiors, and built from scratch by Barr Group, the property sits comfortably into its setting. Industrial elements including shadow gap timber cladding, weathered soft red-brick walls and exposed beams (both steel and timber) are perfectly balanced and exactingly delivered. Through a considered mirroring of the materials pallet, across the hamlet and inside/outside the property, Ridgeley Farmhouse offers a feeling of continuity and a strong connection with the rolling greenbelt countryside beyond.
